Bengaluru: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders staged a protest near the Gandhi statue at Vidhana Soudha on Thursday, alleging that BJP MLAs were attacked and accusing the Congress government of failing to maintain law and order in the state.
The protest was led by state BJP president B.Y. Vijayendra, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly R. Ashok, and Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy.
Several senior party leaders, including Deputy Leader of the Opposition Arvind Bellad, Legislative Council Opposition Chief Whip N. Ravikumar, BJP MLAs, MLCs and party office-bearers, participated in the demonstration.
Following the protest, a BJP delegation submitted a memorandum to the Governor’s Secretary, alleging that BJP legislators had been subjected to a violent attack by Congress workers. The party described the incident as a “government-sponsored” assault and claimed that the state’s law and order situation had deteriorated.
In the memorandum, the BJP sought a fair and impartial investigation into the alleged incident and urged the state government to ensure adequate security for Opposition MLAs. The party also appealed for appropriate action against those responsible for the alleged attack.
