New Delhi: Indian Navy warship INS Mysore arrived at Lumut, Malaysia, on September 9 to participate in the fourth edition of the bilateral maritime exercise Samudra Laksamana with the Royal Malaysian Navy.
The visit is part of the Indian Navy’s operational deployment and is aimed at strengthening maritime cooperation, improving interoperability and deepening professional ties between the two navies.
INS Mysore and its crew were warmly received by personnel of the Royal Malaysian Navy and officials from the High Commission of India in Malaysia following the ship’s arrival.
Exercise Samudra Laksamana will include a series of professional engagements both in harbour and at sea.
The programme features cross-deck visits, operational interactions and sporting activities, providing personnel from both navies an opportunity to exchange professional experiences and develop a better understanding of each other’s operational practices.
The engagements are also expected to enhance interoperability and strengthen coordination between the Indian and Malaysian navies.
The latest exercise builds on a series of recent bilateral engagements between the two countries.
The Indian Navy highlighted the 12th India-Malaysia Sub Committee Meeting, held on July 1, 2026, as part of the growing institutional engagement between the two sides.
The visit of INS Mysore and the conduct of Samudra Laksamana underscore the longstanding maritime partnership between India and Malaysia and the expanding scope of cooperation between their naval forces.
Regular exercises and professional exchanges have become an important component of India’s defence engagement with Malaysia, particularly in strengthening maritime security cooperation and building operational familiarity.
The exercise is being conducted in line with the Government of India’s MAHASAGAR vision — Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions.
It also forms part of the ASEAN-India Year of Maritime Cooperation 2026, reflecting India’s focus on strengthening maritime partnerships with ASEAN countries.
The fourth edition of Samudra Laksamana is expected to further consolidate India-Malaysia naval ties through practical training, professional interaction and greater mutual understanding.
