NEW DELHI: The Congress Seva Dal has filed a cyber complaint against retired Indian Air Force Flight Lieutenant Anup Verma over a social media post in which he compared Congress leader Rahul Gandhi with 26/11 Mumbai terror attack convict Ajmal Kasab.
Verma shared a collage on X on Tuesday featuring images of Gandhi and Kasab walking with bags. Alongside the images, he wrote that he could say with “complete conviction” that the person on the left was more dangerous to India.
The post triggered a controversy, with the Congress objecting to the comparison between the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Kasab, who was convicted for his role in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
The legal wing of the Congress Seva Dal said it would pursue the matter through appropriate legal channels. It said it would not tolerate what it described as malicious or unlawful acts targeting the Congress, its leaders or members.
The organisation also said it would challenge acts that allegedly defame Congress leaders or equate democratic political disagreement with terrorism.
Referring to the constitutional protection of freedom of speech and expression under Article 19, the Congress Seva Dal said such rights are subject to reasonable legal restrictions. It said it would seek legal remedies under the Constitution, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and applicable cyber laws.
The complaint comes amid continuing political exchanges on social media, where posts targeting political leaders have frequently triggered demands for legal action from rival parties.
