New Delhi: A high-level US delegation is likely to visit India next month to continue bilateral trade negotiations, Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal said. He added that the dates for the visit are yet to be finalised.
An Indian Commerce Ministry team had visited Washington in April to discuss the proposed interim trade agreement between the two countries. According to the Commerce and Industry Ministry, progress has been made on issues including market access, customs cooperation, digital trade, investment promotion and technical trade barriers.
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said the US is committed to strengthening trade and investment ties with India. He noted that Indian companies are planning investments of more than 20.5 billion US dollars in the US across sectors such as technology, manufacturing and pharmaceuticals.
The US administration has also said that India-US economic cooperation is expanding further under the leadership of Donald Trump.
Both countries had agreed on February 7 to work on an interim trade agreement framework, which is expected to pave the way for a comprehensive bilateral trade agreement in the future.
