New Delhi: AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal has expressed solidarity with Jamia Millia Islamia students who have been on hunger strike for 16 days, demanding the revival of their Students’ Union.
Venugopal said the union would provide students with a democratic platform to raise their concerns. He accused the university administration of adopting a heavy-handed approach, alleging that electricity and water supplies had been cut and classes shifted online.
He claimed the administration’s handling of the protest had disrupted academic activities and accused it of attempting to distract attention from the students’ demands.

Describing the issue as a matter of democratic rights, Venugopal urged the authorities to engage with the protesters and accept their demand for the restoration of the Students’ Union.
He reiterated the Congress party’s support for the students and called for a resolution that addresses their concerns.
