6 killed as tractor plunges off bridge after tanker collision in Koppal

Koppal: Six people, including a child, were killed after a tractor plunged off a bridge following a collision with a tanker near Munirabad in Karnataka’s Koppal district on Tuesday.

The accident occurred on the Tungabhadra bridge under the limits of Munirabad police station when the tanker allegedly rammed into the tractor from behind, causing the driver to lose control.

Police identified the deceased as Kenchappa (35), Mahantesh (18), Bharat (1), Savita (12), Maresh and Gouramma. All the victims were residents of Marlayanahalli village in Vijayanagar district’s Kudligi taluk.

According to police, the victims were travelling in the tractor to attend the Huligemma fair when the mishap took place.

The impact of the collision reportedly threw the tractor off the bridge, leaving several passengers trapped and injured. More than 10 people sustained serious injuries and were shifted to hospitals in Hospet and Koppal for treatment.
