AICC secretary Suraj Hegde passes away; DK Shivakumar expresses grief

Bengaluru: Senior Congress leader Suraj Hegde, who served as AICC secretary and vice-chairman of the Karnataka State Guarantee Schemes Implementation Committee, passed away, party leaders said on Sunday.

Hegde played a key role in the Congress organisation and was serving as the AICC in-charge for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. He had also held important positions in the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), including vice-president, and was associated with the implementation of the state’s guarantee schemes.

Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar expressed deep sorrow over Hegde’s demise and paid tribute to his contribution to the party.

“Suraj Hegde’s contribution to strengthening the Congress through his organisational skills and commitment to public causes was unparalleled. We have lost an active leader who always maintained excellent relations with party workers,” Shivakumar said in a condolence message.

The chief minister also prayed for strength and courage for Hegde’s family members, friends and supporters to bear the loss.

Hegde’s passing has been widely mourned by Congress leaders and workers, who remembered him as a dedicated organiser and a committed party functionary.
