New Delhi: Senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad on Friday accused the Congress and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi of indulging in “politics of anarchy” to divert public attention from the ongoing ‘Vande Mataram’ controversy.
Prasad was reacting to Rahul Gandhi’s protest outside Parliament Street police station, demanding registration of an FIR over the alleged pellet-gun injury suffered by student Sahil Lochab during a July 20 protest.
Addressing a press conference, Prasad questioned Rahul’s decision to stage a protest outside a police station without prior permission or notice. He said Delhi Police had already registered an FIR and were investigating the incident, while the Supreme Court had also constituted a high-level committee headed by a retired judge to look into the matter.

“What is the need for such a protest when the legal process is already underway?” Prasad asked, questioning whether Rahul Gandhi had “no faith in the law and judiciary”.
What is the pellet-gun case?
Lochab was allegedly injured during the ‘Sansad Chalo’ protest at Jantar Mantar on July 20 against alleged NEET irregularities and question-paper leaks. The Congress claimed that a pellet injury caused serious damage to his right eye and could affect his vision.
Rahul Gandhi later protested outside Parliament Street police station along with Lochab and other Congress leaders, demanding action against those responsible.
Delhi Police have denied using pellet guns during the protest. A case against unidentified persons has been registered and the investigation is underway.
Prasad alleged that the Congress was staging the protest to divert attention from the ‘Vande Mataram’ controversy.
