Ahmedabad: Chennai Super Kings suffered a crushing 89-run defeat against Gujarat Titans in a crucial IPL match, ending their hopes of reaching the playoffs this season.
Batting first at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Gujarat Titans posted a massive total of 229 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs. Sai Sudarshan starred with a brilliant 84-run knock, while skipper Shubman Gill scored 64 runs. Jos Buttler remained unbeaten on 57 and powered Gujarat to a commanding total with aggressive batting in the death overs.
Chasing a challenging target, Chennai Super Kings lost wickets at regular intervals and failed to build any significant partnership. Mohammed Siraj gave Gujarat an early breakthrough, while Kagiso Rabada and Rashid Khan bowled with precision and kept the pressure on CSK batters throughout the innings.
As a result, Chennai were bowled out for just 140 runs in 13.4 overs.
With this emphatic victory, Gujarat Titans climbed to the second position in the points table and strengthened their playoff prospects. On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings were officially knocked out of the tournament after losing a must-win encounter.
