New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated Mirabai Chanu after she won the gold medal in the women’s 48 kg weightlifting event at the Commonwealth Games 2026, describing her achievement as another milestone in Indian sport.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister praised Chanu’s performance, saying she had once again demonstrated her exceptional talent on the international stage.
“Another glorious chapter in Indian Weightlifting! The talented Mirabai Chanu once again showcased her skills at the Commonwealth Games with a stunning performance in the 48 kg category and winning Gold,” Modi wrote.
The Prime Minister noted that the victory marked Chanu’s second consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal and her fourth overall Commonwealth Games medal, calling her an inspiration to millions of Indians.
“With back-to-back Commonwealth Games Golds and an overall fourth CWG medal to her name, she remains an inspiration for every Indian. Congratulations to her! Best wishes for the endeavours ahead,” he added.
Mirabai Chanu, one of India’s most decorated weightlifters, has consistently delivered strong performances on the international stage, further strengthening her reputation as one of the country’s leading sporting icons.
