Ayush Ministry Issues Standard Guidelines for Skin Disorders

New Delhi: The Ministry of Ayush has issued Standard Treatment Guidelines for managing dermatological disorders across Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy, with the inclusion of Yoga, to promote uniformity, quality assurance and evidence-informed clinical practice.

Released on the occasion of the 11th Ayurveda Day, the guidelines were prepared by the Ayush Vertical of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush Prataprao Jadhav said the guidelines would strengthen the integration of Ayush systems into the national healthcare framework by promoting standardised and evidence-informed patient care.

The recommendations cover prevention, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and rehabilitation for common skin conditions, including psoriasis, dermatitis, vitiligo, urticaria and dermatophytosis.

Ayush Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha said the guidelines would support consistent clinical practices and rational decision-making while preserving the fundamental principles of each traditional system. DGHS Director General Dr Loveneesh G. Krishna highlighted their role in promoting quality assurance and patient-centred healthcare.

The guidelines were developed through consultations involving Ayush research councils, academic specialists, Yoga experts and modern medicine professionals. The process included reviews of classical texts and contemporary scientific evidence.

The protocols were also field-tested in collaboration with the Directorate of Ayush, Delhi, with feedback from medical officers in primary and secondary healthcare incorporated into the final documents.

The ministry expects the guidelines to support clinical decision-making, professional training, education and research, while strengthening standardisation and quality assurance in Ayush healthcare delivery.
