Kathmandu: India is expanding its collaboration with Nepal in language technology, with the Digital India BHASHINI Division organising an interactive developer session in Kathmandu to explore the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for building multilingual digital solutions.
The BHASHINI शिल्पी session, organised at the Embassy of India by the Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD) under the Digital India Corporation (DIC), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), brought together developers, technology practitioners, students and innovators from Nepal.
The session focused on how Language AI can be used to address real-world challenges and make digital services more inclusive across different languages and communities.
From AI ideas to scalable solutions
Unlike a conventional technology seminar, the session provided participants with opportunities to experiment with BHASHINI technologies through live demonstrations, practical discussions and an open question-and-answer session.
Participants were introduced to BHASHINI APIs and developer resources and explored four key stages — Develop with BHASHINI, Solve with BHASHINI, Scale with BHASHINI and Innovate with BHASHINI.
A key focus was on converting real-world problems into prototypes and eventually developing scalable solutions using Language AI.
Amitabh Nag, CEO of the Digital India BHASHINI Division, said Language AI becomes meaningful when developers can use it to address problems that matter to people and communities.
He said the collaboration with Nepal was aimed at jointly building an ecosystem where developers, students and innovators can experiment with technology, exchange ideas and create solutions that work across languages.
The enthusiastic participation of Nepal’s technology and innovation community highlighted growing interest in using Language AI to address the country’s diverse linguistic requirements.
The initiative is also expected to strengthen India-Nepal cooperation in language technology, particularly by creating opportunities for developers, academia and innovators from both countries to collaborate and co-create digital solutions.
BHASHINI, India’s national platform for AI-powered multilingual digital inclusion, currently supports 36 Indian text languages, 23 Indian voice languages and 35 international languages. It powers more than 800 government websites, has recorded over 9 billion cumulative AI inferences and processes more than 24 million AI inferences daily, according to the government.
