Patna: Bihar observed a “Vehicle-Free Day” following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to reduce petrol and diesel consumption amid global fuel concerns.
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary walked to the state secretariat from his official residence to promote energy conservation and fuel savings. He covered nearly 150 metres on foot and had also reduced the size of his official convoy.
Officials, security personnel and staff accompanied the Chief Minister during the walk.
Panchayat Raj Minister Deepak Prakash also walked nearly one kilometre to his office. He said fuel conservation had become important due to the global situation arising from the US-Iran conflict.
Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari travelled to office in an e-rickshaw to encourage eco-friendly transportation. He said the initiative was aimed at spreading awareness about fuel conservation and sustainable transport options.
In several districts across Bihar, district collectors and police officials reportedly travelled by bicycles as part of the campaign. In Gaya district, even security personnel used bicycles during duty movements.
Officials said the initiative not only helps save fuel but also promotes better health and environmental awareness among the public.
