New Delhi: Oil marketing companies have raised the prices of commercial LPG cylinders across the country, increasing the cost burden on hotels, restaurants and other businesses dependent on cooking gas.
The revised rates came into effect on June 1 amid continued uncertainty in global energy markets.
According to the latest revision, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi has been increased by Rs 42 to Rs 3,113.50. In Kolkata, the price has gone up by Rs 53.50, taking the retail rate to Rs 3,255.50.
The cost of a 5-kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinder has also been raised by Rs 11. The cylinder will now be available at Rs 821.50 in the national capital.
In Bengaluru, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has increased by Rs 46, pushing the rate to Rs 3,198 from Rs 3,152 last month.
The latest hike is expected to increase operational expenses for hotels, restaurants, catering services and small and medium enterprises that rely heavily on commercial LPG. Industry stakeholders fear that the higher input costs could eventually lead to an increase in food prices and service charges.
Despite the hike in commercial LPG rates, domestic consumers have been spared for now, as there has been no change in the price of household cooking gas cylinders.
Officials said domestic LPG prices will continue at existing rates until further revision.
