New Delhi: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi held discussions with chief ministers, education ministers and senior party leaders from Congress-ruled states on education and examination reforms on Tuesday.
The meeting at Indira Bhawan was attended by Congress general secretary (organisation) K.C. Venugopal, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other state in-charges. Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu were among those who participated.
According to Venugopal, Congress-ruled states will hold consultations with education experts and other stakeholders before preparing comprehensive action plans within a month. The party also plans to organise a national-level consultation to work out a mechanism for implementing the proposed reforms.
The discussions covered reforms in both the education sector and examination system, with the stated objective of developing Congress-ruled states as model states in education.
Congress raises RSS concerns
Venugopal also said the meeting discussed what Congress describes as the RSS’s attempt to influence the education sector with what the party calls a “divisive agenda”. Congress leaders said state governments would present their views on the issue, including concerns over appointments to university positions.
