New Delhi: The Ministry of Defence has dismissed media reports claiming that the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) was hit by a cyberattack, stating that an internal investigation found no evidence of any active cyber intrusion, unauthorised network access or fresh data breach.
In a statement, the ministry said most of the information being circulated as “leaked” did not contain classified or confidential material. It added that some of the documents being shared were linked to an older data breach dating back to 2020-2022 and were being falsely portrayed as recent and sensitive.
According to the ministry, the probe found that the same old data was being offered for sale by multiple cyber threat actors, apparently to create panic and gain financial benefits. It clarified that the material had no connection with the current operations of DRDO or the Ministry of Defence.
The ministry reiterated that DRDO’s systems remain secure and that no classified or sensitive information has been compromised.
It also urged media organisations to thoroughly verify information before publishing reports on matters concerning national security and cyber defence.
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the country’s cyber and defence infrastructure, the ministry said India’s defence systems remain secure and under constant protection.
