New Delhi: The National Helpline for Senior Citizens, ELDERLINE 14567, has received more than 29 lakh calls since its launch in October 2021, with over 8.67 lakh calls requiring action through information, guidance, emotional support or field intervention, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment said.
The toll-free helpline, launched on October 1, 2021, operates as part of the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY) and is currently functional in 32 states and Union Territories.
According to Sajeesh Kumar N, Joint Secretary, Senior Citizen Division, the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), which monitors the programme, has handled more than 8.67 lakh actionable calls between financial year 2021 and September 21, 2026.
ELDERLINE connects senior citizens with assistance based on the nature of their concerns. State Connect Centres provide information and guidance, emotional support and counselling, besides coordinating field-level interventions when required.
Depending on the grievance, the helpline works with state social welfare departments, police, healthcare institutions, legal aid services, senior citizen homes and other local agencies.

State governments facilitate field-level intervention and rehabilitation wherever necessary, officials said.
The Ministry implements the helpline through agreements with participating state and Union Territory governments and service providers. NISD and the respective governments monitor calls, grievances, services and field interventions through periodic progress reports.
The ministry also reviews digital service delivery, awareness and outreach programmes, accessibility and coordination with local authorities to strengthen the helpline’s reach, including among senior citizens living in remote areas.
Officials said the helpline is intended to provide a coordinated support mechanism for senior citizens rather than direct financial assistance.
Senior citizens seeking information, guidance, emotional support or assistance with accessing relevant services can call the toll-free ELDERLINE number 14567.
The helpline coordinates services and referrals based on individual requirements but does not provide direct financial assistance to callers.
