New Delhi: The 89th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle will be held in Surat on September 6 with the theme ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat’, promoting fitness and sports as tools to encourage a healthy and drug-free younger generation.
Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya will lead the cycling initiative, while Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi will also participate.
The event is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for a “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat” and the ongoing 100-week nationwide Jan Bhagidari campaign under the Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan.

Mandaviya said the initiative aims to encourage young people to stay away from drugs and adopt healthy and active lifestyles. He said cycling and other fitness activities under the Fit India movement could help create a generation that is healthy, confident, disciplined and committed to nation-building.
The campaign follows PM Modi’s Independence Day address from the Red Fort, where he highlighted drug abuse as a major challenge facing the country and its youth.
The Surat cycling event will begin at 6am from the Sardar Patel Statue at Mangadh Chowk and pass through Mini Bazaar and Varachha Main Road before concluding at Sarthana Zoo.
Several prominent sportspersons will join the initiative, including Padma Shri Olympian Achanta Sharath Kamal, Arjuna Awardee Sarita Mor, wrestler Shivani Pawar and Commonwealth medallist Rahul Mann.
The organisers said the campaign seeks to build sustained public participation against substance abuse by combining sports, fitness, awareness and community engagement.
