Grand school reopening ceremony across Karnataka on June 1

Bengaluru: Karnataka will hold a grand statewide school reopening ceremony on June 1, with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah set to welcome students back to classrooms, School Education and Literacy Minister S. Madhu Bangarappa said on Thursday.

The minister chaired a video conference meeting with principals, teachers and senior education department officials, including DDPI, DDPU and BEO officers from over 46,000 government schools, to review preparations for the new academic year.

As part of the reopening programme, Siddaramaiah will address a Mega Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM) to be conducted simultaneously across schools in the state. He will also interact directly with students and parents through video conferencing.

The chief minister will lay the foundation stone for a new Karnataka Public School (KPS) building in Shivamogga and virtually launch KPS projects at the state level from the same venue.

Madhu Bangarappa directed officials to create awareness among parents and the public about the objectives, quality and facilities available in Karnataka Public Schools.

The minister also outlined key priorities for the upcoming academic year. He instructed officials to intensify enrolment drives, identify school dropouts and bring them back into the education system.

He stressed the need for effective implementation of the mid-day meal scheme, timely distribution of textbooks and uniforms, and regular school inspections by DDPI, BEO, CRP and BRP officials to ensure quality teaching and teacher attendance.

“The SSLC examination is a bridge to higher education. Students are the backbone of Karnataka’s human resources. Every teacher must work with commitment towards improving SSLC results,” the minister said.
