Chennai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds in parts of Tamil Nadu on Saturday, particularly in the Western Ghats region, due to a weak low-pressure circulation over the state’s coastal areas.
According to the IMD, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, The Nilgiris, Theni and Kanyakumari districts are likely to receive widespread rainfall, with heavy showers expected in hilly and ghat regions. Moderate rainfall is expected to continue in these districts until August 6.

The weather department said moisture-laden winds associated with the low-pressure system will sustain rainfall activity over the coming days. Residents in vulnerable and landslide-prone areas have been advised to remain cautious.
Moderate rain accompanied by gusty winds is also likely at isolated places along the north coastal districts of Tamil Nadu. While widespread flooding is not expected, a few areas may experience brief spells of intense rainfall, especially during the evening and night.
