India-Indonesia Joint Special Forces Exercise Garuda Shakti Begins in Indonesia

Banyuwangi: The 11th edition of the India-Indonesia Joint Special Forces Exercise, Garuda Shakti, commenced in Banyuwangi, Indonesia, on October 27. The exercise will continue until November 6, with a focus on strengthening cooperation and interoperability between the special forces of both countries.

The Indian contingent comprises troops from the Parachute Regiment (Special Forces), while Indonesia is represented by personnel from its Special Forces.

The joint training programme includes tactics, techniques and procedures for special operations in jungle environments. Key activities include obstacle crossing, combat marksmanship, mountaineering, air assault training and combat-hardening sessions.

The exercise also provides a platform for both contingents to exchange expertise on weapons, equipment and operational practices.

The training will culminate in a validation exercise involving realistic operational scenarios to assess the troops’ endurance, coordination and combat readiness.

The exercise is expected to further strengthen defence cooperation and bilateral relations between India and Indonesia.
