New Delhi: Union Minister L. Murugan has resigned from his ministerial post, expressing his intention to devote his full time to strengthening the BJP’s organisational network in Tamil Nadu ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
In a message posted on social media platform X, Murugan described serving in the Union Cabinet under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership as the greatest honour of his life.
Recalling his journey from a humble background as the son of daily-wage labourers to becoming a Union minister, he said the opportunity to serve the country and Tamil Nadu had been a matter of immense pride.
Murugan said he now wished to return to grassroots party activities and work directly with party workers to expand the BJP’s presence across Tamil Nadu.

“I will dedicate myself full-time to standing with party workers and strengthening the BJP in Tamil Nadu ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections,” he said.
A former president of the Tamil Nadu BJP, Murugan expressed his commitment to working closely with party cadres and strengthening the organisation at the grassroots level.
He concluded his message with the slogan, “Nation first, party next, self last.”
His decision comes amid discussions about a possible Union Cabinet reshuffle. Strengthening the BJP’s organisational base in Tamil Nadu ahead of the 2029 general elections is now his stated priority.
