New Delhi: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) will launch Special Campaign 6.0 from October 2 to 31, focusing on cleanliness, safety and better upkeep of National Highways (NHs) and toll plazas across the country.
The campaign will also target reduction of pending matters, improved record management, responsible disposal of e-waste and better utilisation of office space under the ministry and its organisations.
A preparatory phase, underway from September 15 to 30, involves identifying locations and targets, planning cleanliness drives and segregating obsolete items for disposal.
During the main campaign, authorities will undertake garbage removal along NHs, particularly in urban areas, and improve toilet facilities at toll plazas and other highway locations. Cleaning and maintenance of existing toilets, painting, improved lighting, solarisation of toll plazas and installation or upgrading of road signage will also be taken up.
The ministry will additionally focus on improving the visibility of road markings and eliminating potholes on National Highways.
As part of the exercise, a 50-km NH stretch, including a toll plaza, has been selected for intensive intervention. Officials from MoRTH headquarters will inspect the identified stretches, geo-tag deficiencies and monitor corrective measures throughout the campaign.
The ministry has asked its headquarters, regional offices, programme implementation units and other field formations to coordinate closely to ensure visible and lasting improvements.
Nodal officers have been appointed across organisations under MoRTH to oversee implementation and submit regular progress reports. The Joint Secretary (Coordination) will coordinate the campaign across the ministry and its organisations.
Senior officials will review progress regularly, while the MoRTH secretary will monitor the preparatory phase during weekly meetings.
The ministry said the campaign aims to create cleaner, safer and better-maintained highways and toll plazas, while improving administrative efficiency and workplace practices.
