Oslo: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Iceland Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir on the sidelines of the 3rd India-Nordic Summit in Oslo.
This was the first meeting between the two leaders since Frostadóttir assumed office as the Prime Minister of Iceland. Modi congratulated her on becoming the youngest Prime Minister in Iceland’s history.
During the meeting, both leaders discussed ways to strengthen bilateral ties, particularly in the backdrop of the India-European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) coming into effect. They agreed that the agreement would create new opportunities in trade, investment and manufacturing cooperation between the two countries.
The leaders also reviewed ongoing cooperation in sectors including geothermal energy, fisheries, innovative technologies, creative economy, culture, tourism, mobility and people-to-people ties.
They further discussed enhancing collaboration in Arctic research and explored possibilities for deeper scientific and strategic cooperation in the region.
Prime Minister Modi also invited the Icelandic Prime Minister to visit India at a mutually convenient time.
