New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu has accepted the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan as Union Education Minister and assigned the additional charge of the Ministry of Education to Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, according to an official statement from the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The order was issued on the recommendation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with Joshi taking over the portfolio in addition to his existing ministerial responsibilities.
Pralhad Joshi currently serves as the Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Minister for New and Renewable Energy. A Member of Parliament from Dharwad in Karnataka, he will continue to oversee his existing ministries while holding the additional charge of the Education Ministry.
The development follows Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation amid the controversy surrounding the NEET-UG 2026 examination. Pradhan had said he stepped down after taking moral responsibility for the developments related to the examination and stated that his decision was made in the interest of students.
The Rashtrapati Bhavan statement confirmed that the President had accepted Pradhan’s resignation and approved the Prime Minister’s recommendation to entrust the Education Ministry to Pralhad Joshi until further orders.
