Rift Emerges In Congress Over GBA Elections?

Bengaluru: Union Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy has alleged that differences have emerged between Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar over the proposed elections to the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA).

Speaking in Bengaluru, Kumaraswamy claimed that Siddaramaiah had convened a meeting of officials in the absence of D.K. Shivakumar and instructed them to proceed with the GBA elections.

He further alleged that Shivakumar later held a separate meeting and pressured officials to avoid conducting the elections “under any circumstances.”

Kumaraswamy criticised the Congress government for approaching the Supreme Court in an attempt to postpone the elections. He alleged that reasons such as the census process were being cited to delay the polls until September.

“The Chief Minister wants elections to strengthen his political position. But D.K. Shivakumar fears that if elections are held, his aspirations to become Chief Minister may weaken,” Kumaraswamy alleged.
