Bengaluru: The BJP and Janata Dal (Secular) have decided to constitute a state-level coordination committee to strengthen their alliance ahead of the upcoming Assembly by-elections and intensify their joint campaign against the Karnataka government.
According to sources, the decision was taken during a meeting between BJP State President B.Y. Vijayendra and senior JD(S) leaders in Bengaluru. Both parties reportedly agreed that a formal coordination mechanism is necessary to ensure better cooperation and smooth functioning of the alliance.
The proposed committee will comprise six members. The BJP is expected to be represented by B.Y. Vijayendra, Leader of the Opposition R. Ashok, and Union Minister Prahlad Joshi. The JD(S) will nominate three members, including Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy.

Sources said the alliance plans to officially announce the committee before the Dharwad and Hiriyur Assembly by-elections.
The move comes in the wake of coordination issues witnessed during the recent Legislative Council elections, with both parties aiming to avoid similar situations in future electoral contests.
The coordination committee is expected to focus on joint election strategy, organisational coordination, candidate-related discussions, and regular communication between the BJP and JD(S) leadership to strengthen the alliance at the grassroots level.
