Ramalingam murder case: NIA charges four former PFI activists

Chennai: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against four former activists of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) for allegedly sheltering key accused in the 2019 murder of Ramalingam.

The chargesheet, submitted before the NIA Special Court in Poonamallee, names K. Mohideen, Mohammed Imran, Tamim Ansari and Asmat. According to the agency, the accused knowingly provided refuge and logistical support to the main conspirators involved in Ramalingam’s killing at Thirubhuvanam in Tamil Nadu.

Ramalingam was murdered on February 5, 2019. The NIA investigation alleges that two absconding accused were sheltered for nearly six years to evade arrest.

With the latest chargesheet, the number of accused charge-sheeted in the case has risen to 18. Several suspects have already been arrested, while efforts are continuing to trace the remaining accused.

In a separate development, former All India Trinamool Congress MLA Sakat Mollah has been remanded to 14-day NIA custody in connection with the Bhangar blast case in West Bengal.

The agency informed the court that a mobile phone and a pen drive were recovered from Mollah, and permission has been granted for forensic examination of the seized devices.

Three persons have been arrested so far in the blast case, with the NIA continuing its investigation into the incident.
