New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has dismissed speculation that the third ODI against England at Lord’s on Sunday will be Rohit Sharma’s final international appearance.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said there has been no discussion regarding Rohit’s retirement, adding that the India captain remains an important member of the ODI squad and that the Lord’s match is not being treated as his farewell.

The clarification comes amid reports linking Rohit’s future to his modest scores of 11 and 26 in the first two ODIs against England. Media reports had suggested the BCCI could consider giving young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal more opportunities as part of its preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Rohit retired from T20 Internationals after leading India to the 2024 T20 World Cup title and stepped away from Test cricket in 2025. He currently represents India only in the ODI format.
Recent reports had also speculated that his place in the ODI side could come under scrutiny due to his form, but the BCCI’s statement has ruled out any immediate retirement plans.
