IMD issues heavy rain warning for Karnataka coast

Bengaluru: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall across parts of coastal, Malnad and north interior Karnataka on July 18 and 19, with an Orange alert issued for Dakshina Kannada district.

According to the IMD, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada are likely to receive heavy rainfall accompanied by winds of 30-50 kmph. Authorities have also warned of the possibility of landslides in coastal and ghat regions and urged residents to remain vigilant.

As a precaution, the Dakshina Kannada district administration has declared a holiday for Anganwadis, primary and high schools, and PU colleges.


Heavy rain is also expected in parts of Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru and Belagavi districts, while Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadgiri, Raichur, Bagalkot, Koppal and Vijayapura are likely to experience moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.

The IMD has also forecast moderate rain in Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Mysuru, Mandya, Ramanagara, Tumakuru, Hassan and Kodagu districts.
