Bengaluru: BJP MLA S. Suresh Kumar has sought an explanation from the Karnataka government over the alleged non-disbursal of nearly ₹5,000 crore meant for beneficiaries of the Grihalakshmi scheme.
In a Facebook post, Suresh Kumar claimed that financial assistance for February and March 2025 had not reached around 1.14 crore women enrolled under the flagship welfare programme. He urged the government to clarify the status of the funds and disclose whether the amount had been credited to beneficiaries’ accounts.
The BJP leader recalled that the issue was raised in the Assembly by BJP MLA Mahesh Tenginakai during the winter session at Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi. According to him, while the government had stated that payments had been processed, documents presented in the House allegedly indicated that the money had not reached beneficiaries.
Suresh Kumar questioned why there has been no clear clarification regarding the alleged ₹5,000 crore pending amount even after several months.
He also called upon former Chief Minister and Finance Minister Siddaramaiah to provide a detailed explanation to the public and beneficiaries of the scheme.
“The government must be accountable for public funds and explain what happened to the money meant for 1.14 crore Grihalakshmi beneficiaries,” he said.
