Islamabad: The death toll in the terrorist attack on a police checkpost in Bannu district of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has risen to 15, according to local media reports on Monday.
The militant outfit Ittehad-ul-Mujahideen Pakistan has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack through social media posts.
Officials said armed militants drove an explosives-laden vehicle into the Fateh Khel police checkpost late Saturday night, triggering a massive blast that completely destroyed the facility.
Following the explosion, militants allegedly opened fire from multiple directions, leading to an intense gun battle that continued for several hours. Security officials said additional explosions were also heard during the attack, creating panic across the area.
The incident has once again raised concerns over rising militant violence in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region, which has witnessed repeated attacks targeting security personnel in recent months.
