Kolkata: The newly formed Bharatiya Janata Party government in West Bengal has reportedly begun taking strict measures against alleged cow smuggling activities in the state.
Soon after assuming power, the government issued special instructions to district police officials to closely monitor illegal activities and ensure that cattle smuggling is curbed. Authorities have also been directed to prevent the functioning of illegal cattle markets.
During the Assembly election campaign, BJP leaders had promised that strict action would be taken to stop cow smuggling if the party came to power. They had also announced plans to form special surveillance teams to monitor such activities.
Following the formation of the new government, the issue has now been given priority, with officials reportedly asked to intensify enforcement measures across sensitive districts.
