Kharge mourns Suraj Hegde’s demise, recalls his contribution to Congress

New Delhi: Senior Congress leaders, including AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, have expressed grief over the demise of Suraj Hegde, who served as AICC secretary and vice-chairman of the Karnataka Guarantee Schemes Implementation Committee.

Hegde was actively involved in the Congress organisation and had been serving as the party’s in-charge for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. He was also associated with various organisational responsibilities within the party in Karnataka.

In a post on X, Kharge described Hegde as a young and promising leader who served the Congress with dedication and commitment.

“Deeply shocked and saddened by the untimely demise of Shri Suraj Hegde, a young and promising leader who served the party with dedication as an AICC Secretary,” Kharge said.

Recalling his long association with Hegde, the Congress president said he had known him since his teenage years and had witnessed his growth into a committed leader devoted to the organisation.

Kharge noted that Hegde had made significant contributions to the Youth Congress and worked to uphold the legacy and values of former Karnataka chief minister Devaraj Urs with sincerity and commitment.

“My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and supporters during this difficult time. May they find the strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss,” Kharge added.

Hegde’s death has triggered an outpouring of condolences from Congress leaders and workers across the country, who remembered him as an energetic organiser and dedicated party functionary.
