Main shooter arrested in Suvendu Adhikari PA murder case

Kolkata: The CBI has arrested Rajkumar Singh, the alleged main shooter in the murder case of Chandranath Rath, personal assistant to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari.

Rajkumar Singh was arrested from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh with the help of local police and was later brought on transit remand. Earlier, the agency had arrested three accused — Mayank Raj Mishra, Vicky Maurya and Raj Singh — in connection with the case.

With the latest arrest, the number of accused held in the case has risen to four.

Chandranath Rath was shot dead by unidentified assailants on the night of May 6, just two days after the West Bengal assembly election results were announced. The murder triggered a major political controversy in the state, following which the investigation was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Officials said the probe is continuing to uncover the larger conspiracy behind the killing and to examine the links between the accused and other possible suspects.
