Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet on Sunday approved the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill during a special meeting held at the historic town of Jagdishpur near Bhopal, paving the way for its introduction in the upcoming Assembly session.
Announcing the decision, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said the proposed legislation aims to ensure equal rights for all citizens while preserving the state’s historical heritage. He asserted that the UCC would not infringe upon the fundamental rights of any citizen and would guarantee equal opportunities to people of all faiths.
Yadav said the draft Bill was prepared after an extensive public consultation process led by a committee headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai.
The chief minister also said the proposal received encouraging support from members of the Muslim community.
The UCC Bill is expected to be introduced during the forthcoming session of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly. If passed, the state would join the growing list of states implementing a Uniform Civil Code, aimed at establishing a common legal framework on civil matters across communities.
