Srinagar: At least 10 people were killed and several others went missing after flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall swept through parts of Poonch and Rajouri districts in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, prompting large-scale rescue operations.
The worst-hit area was Lower Murrah in Bufliyaz of Surankote tehsil in Poonch district, where the flash floods caused extensive damage. Officials said eight of the deceased have been identified, while efforts are underway to trace those still missing.
The floods also caused widespread disruption to essential services. Electricity poles were uprooted in several villages, leading to power outages, while mobile network connectivity was affected in many parts of the region.

Authorities said traffic has been restored on the Mughal Road and the Rajouri-Poonch highway after clearance operations.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall across parts of Jammu and Kashmir till July 23, raising concerns over the possibility of further rain-related incidents. Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert and follow official advisories as rescue and relief efforts continue.
