OneTag FASTag portability now available on NHAI’s Rajmargyatra app

New Delhi: FASTag users can now switch their issuing bank without replacing the physical tag affixed to their vehicle, with the ‘OneTag’ FASTag portability service introduced on the National Highways Authority of India’s (NHAI) Rajmargyatra mobile app.

The service is aimed at giving FASTag users greater choice while simplifying the process of changing issuers. It adds to the app’s existing services, including FASTag Annual Pass, FASTag Local Pass and the 1033 emergency helpline.

How OneTag works

Users can log into the Rajmargyatra app and enter their vehicle registration number to check eligibility. They then receive a six-digit Mobile Verification Code (MVC) from their existing issuer bank.

After authorisation, users can select a new issuer, complete customer verification and onboard their wallet with the new bank. Once the process is completed, the existing FASTag ID remains unchanged, allowing the same physical tag to continue functioning with the new issuer.

The previous issuer will close the existing FASTag wallet and refund the available balance after applicable adjustments. An interoperable FASTag will also have a six-month cooling-off period before it can be ported again.

Greater choice for 13 crore users

NHAI said OneTag could improve FASTag lifecycle management by reducing repeated production, dispatch and reissuance of physical tags, thereby lowering operational costs.

The service is also expected to simplify issuer switching and support a more interoperable digital tolling ecosystem.

With FASTag penetration exceeding 98% and around 13 crore users, the electronic toll collection system has become a key component of highway travel in India.

The OneTag facility is expected to provide users greater flexibility while retaining their existing physical FASTag.
