Ramalinga Reddy an asset to Congress, says Surjewala

Bengaluru: Senior Congress leader Ramalinga Reddy has withdrawn his resignation from the state Cabinet after discussions with party leaders, AICC general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala said on Saturday.

Addressing a press conference at the KPCC office, Surjewala described Ramalinga Reddy as an “asset” to the Congress and said the misunderstanding that triggered the resignation had been resolved.

“Ramalinga Reddy’s experience and expertise are invaluable to the Congress party. He is an asset to the party. The confusion caused by some miscommunication has now been cleared,” Surjewala said.

A Congress veteran associated with the party since 1973, Ramalinga Reddy has been an MLA since 1989 and has served multiple terms as a legislator and minister. According to Surjewala, the senior leader decided to withdraw his resignation after holding discussions with Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar, KPCC president B. K. Hariprasad and other party leaders.

The Congress leader also accused the BJP of attempting to exploit the episode politically, saying the opposition was left disappointed after the issue was settled amicably within the party.

Highlighting the state government’s welfare initiatives, Surjewala said schemes such as Grihalakshmi, Annabhagya, Griha Jyoti and Yuva Nidhi were benefiting crores of people across Karnataka.

He added that the Congress government, under the leadership of Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, KPCC chief B.K. Hariprasad and former chief minister Siddaramaiah, remains committed to the development and welfare of the state.
