Chandigarh: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday said that the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) is a national pledge that requires active participation from every citizen and institution.
Addressing the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region Zone-II (North Zone) Conference in Chandigarh, Birla said that policies, schemes and budget provisions should bring meaningful changes to the lives of people at the grassroots level.
He emphasized that legislators have a crucial role in driving social transformation through effective policies and public welfare initiatives.
“India is moving forward on the foundation of long-term policies, good governance and a stable legal framework,” Birla said, adding that the country has the potential to achieve the goal of a developed nation through collective efforts.
Calling for a nationwide public movement, the Lok Sabha Speaker said citizens must feel personally connected with the mission of building a developed India. He highlighted that India’s youth population, once seen as a challenge, has now become the country’s biggest strength.
He stressed the need to equip young people with quality education, skill development and innovation opportunities. “The laws made in legislatures must match the aspirations and needs of the new generation,” he said.
Birla also underlined the importance of public participation in democracy, saying that stronger citizen engagement with institutions would accelerate development.
The two-day conference is discussing the theme: “Role of an aware society and representatives of the people in facing future challenges and realizing the goal of Viksit Bharat–2047.”
Presiding officers from several states, including Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Sikkim and West Bengal, are participating in the conference.
