CAQM conducts 245 inspections across NCR, flags 87 violations

New Delhi: The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has reported 87 violations during 245 inspections carried out across the National Capital Region (NCR) between May 11 and May 29 as part of its air pollution control drive.

According to CAQM, inspections covered 31 construction and demolition (C&D) sites, 74 industrial units and 140 diesel generator (DG) set locations. Violations included 21 at C&D sites, 25 in the industrial sector and 41 related to DG sets.

Based on the findings, authorities have proposed closure of 11 units or projects, sealing of 33 DG sets, issuance of 19 compliance directions and imposition of environmental compensation in 13 cases.

The Enforcement Task Force (ETF), during its 132nd meeting, also reviewed road dust mitigation measures and flagged repeated violations in Greater Noida and Ghaziabad, leading to notices being issued to the concerned civic agencies.

CAQM said that since the launch of its enforcement drive, flying squads have conducted 27,378 inspections across NCR, resulting in 1,788 closure directions. Of these, 1,401 entities have been allowed to resume operations after compliance verification.

The commission stressed stricter enforcement and improved coordination among agencies to curb pollution from industries, DG sets, construction activities and road dust across the region.
