Domestic LPG price hiked by ₹29 per cylinder; consumers face fresh burden

New Delhi: Domestic cooking gas prices have been increased by ₹29 per cylinder, adding to household expenses amid recent increases in fuel costs.

The revised rates for a 14.2-kg LPG cylinder came into effect on June 7. Following the hike, the price of a domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi has risen from ₹913 to ₹942.

Officials attributed the increase to rising pressure on global oil and gas supplies amid continuing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which have impacted international energy markets.

This is the second increase in domestic LPG prices in the past three months. In March, prices were raised by ₹60 per cylinder.

According to officials, oil marketing companies continue to incur under-recoveries of around ₹700 per cylinder despite the latest revision.

Addressing a press conference, Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, said the government has taken necessary measures to ensure uninterrupted LPG supplies across the country.

The latest increase is expected to add to the financial burden on households already grappling with rising living costs and fuel prices.
