8 charred to death as bus catches fire after crashing into truck on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway

Jaipur: At least eight people were charred to death and over 24 others sustained injuries after a private passenger bus rammed into a truck and caught fire on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Rajasthan’s Dausa district early on Wednesday, police said.

The accident took place near Dhanawada under the Kolwa police station limits. According to preliminary investigations, the bus, which was travelling from Rishikesh in Uttarakhand to Indore in Madhya Pradesh, crashed into a truck moving ahead of it.

The impact of the collision triggered a massive fire, engulfing both the bus and the truck within minutes. Panic-stricken passengers tried to escape the blazing vehicle, with several jumping out to save their lives.

More than 24 injured passengers were rescued by local residents, police and emergency personnel and shifted to the district hospital. Officials said several of the injured were in critical condition.

On receiving information about the accident, police, fire and emergency services personnel, along with local administration officials, rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations. The fire was later brought under control, and the burnt vehicles were cleared from the expressway.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
